COLUMBUS — Ohio State football commitments are, believe it or not, fairly normal teenagers.

That means the future Buckeyes use their social media accounts for socializing, talking to their friends, expressing their views and frustrations and all of the other things that make those platforms unbearable for a lot of people.

The point? It’s not always fruitful to make bold leaps about a recruit’s future plans based only on social media machinations. Last weekend, Ohio State receiver commitment Caleb Burton updated his Instagram profile, removing some photos and updating his biography. In doing so, he removed an otherwise innocuous reference to the Buckeyes football program.

In doing so, Burton set off alarm bells for recruitniks who follow that kind of thing.

Fear not: Ohio State is not in danger of losing Caleb Burton’s pledge.

Burton is one of just 14 players committed to the Buckeyes in the Class of 2022 at this point. Ohio State has had their eyes firmly on a pair of safety prospects, Xavier Nwankpa and Zion Branch, for months. Buford (Ga.) safety Jake Pope took an official visit with the Buckeyes in June, but committed to Alabama on Monday. Ohio State didn’t make a real push in that recruitment in the last month.

Is that because things are moving in a good direction for the Buckeyes with Nwankpa and Branch?

Lettermen Row’s Jeremy Birmingham, Zack Carpenter and Spencer Holbrook are discussing those players and more in the latest episode of Talking Stuff, the recruiting podcast from Lettermen Row.
