Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players themselves. Birminology shows who the young men being recruited by Ohio State truly are — by talking to them. Today’s guest is Ironton (Ohio) linebacker Reid Carrico, the top in-state linebacker target for the Buckeyes in the Class of 2021.
If you were to build a linebacker in a lab, there’s a good chance he’d walk out of it looking like Ironton, Ohio 4-star prospect Reid Carrico.
At 6-foot-3, 230-pounds, the junior star has quickly emerged as one of the country’s hottest young players after an offseason that saw him add scholarship offers from football powerhouses like Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia, Clemson. That avalanche of offers was surprising to Carrico, who knows that big-time football players — at least guys that end up at places like Ohio State — don’t often come from Ironton, the Ohio River town he hails from.
“It’s a little surreal to have [the Buckeyes offer],” Carrico told Lettermen Row over the summer. “My family is all really proud of me, as you can probably imagine. But the big thing for me is just acting the same because I was an unknown at one time and now that I have all this publicity.
“I try to act the exact same because they are family, friends, and teammates of Reid Carrico, not Reid Carrico the linebacker with FBS offers, if that makes sense.â€

Whether he tries to act the same or not, things aren’t the same for Carrico anymore. He’s trying to navigate through a number of major options for college and has seen the timeline he envisioned for a decision change many times as new programs work to put their mark on his recruitment.
What SEC school is pushing the hardest? Is it hard to consider leaving Ohio for school and does he feel the pressure to stay at home? What does Reid Carrico like about Ohio State? How does he envision his recruitment ending from here?
Carrico talks about those things and more in this week’s edition of Birminology on Lettermen Row.
