Gleitman's Goods: Seeing is now believing with this Ohio State team
Everyone exhale. It's much needed after Saturday's latest Ohio State game, a contest which turned hair gray and raised blood pressure across Buckeye Nation, a 21-17 win for the Buckeyes over Nebraska at home. In the sport of college football, and especially in a year like this, any win is a good win for your favorite program. On any given Saturday, David can beat Goliath, which has been proven week after week through upsets such as Vanderbilt over Alabama, Arkansas over Tennessee, Kentucky over Ole Miss, Northern Illinois over Notre Dame, Kennesaw State over Liberty, and Minnesota (and Maryland) over USC, among many others. It's important to recognize that survive and advance is a real thing in college football, and getting a win, however it comes, is most important over all else. Now that you've let out that big sigh of relief, and accepted that you're happy they got the win, even if it took years off your life, there's absolutely something that needs to be said about Ohio State football. After watching whatever Saturday's attempt at winning a football game was, after digesting the loss against Oregon a few weeks back, and after seeing six-and-a-half years of this program under Ryan Day, it's finally time to say that the grace period is gone. Nobody is saying anyone should be fired, but what I am saying is that there's no more "good faith" that this coaching staff or team will "figure things out" or "fix what they need to". Seeing is now believing for me with Ohio State, not just for the 2024 season, but for the future of the program under Day moving forward. Let's unpack all of this and the "why" in this edition of Gleitman's Goods.
