COLUMBUS — Ohio State has officially locked in a time slot for its biggest nonconference home game in years: the Buckeyes will face Texas at Noon on Aug. 30, and the game will air on FOX.

The program tried its best to wiggle out of the Noon slot for this matchup, even petitioning to FOX to showcase the game as a Sunday night primetime matchup on Aug. 31. But Texas said no, athletic director Chris Del Conte citing that the Longhorns didn’t want to have to play Mountain West powerhouse San Jose State at home the following week on a short week.

So the powers that be at FOX have put this marquee matchup in the only slot they seemingly know to broadcast football games in: Noon.

This, of course, will be a rematch of the epic Cotton Bowl semifinal win that sent Ohio State to the national championship game and sent Texas home. The Longhorns will face the Buckeyes in their second consecutive game.

To be clear: this was expected. Ohio State already knew it would have at least two games on the Big Ten’s main television network for the biggest matchups. The Buckeyes announced two weeks ago that the season opener against Texas and the regular-season finale at Michigan will both be broadcast on FOX.

On Nov. 29, The Game will be at Noon on FOX. FOX was never going to give up its biggest game of the season. The network announced a Noon kickoff on FOX in the middle of May for last year’s matchup. Now that it’s officially set to broadcast The Game again this year, we already know it’ll be played at Noon up in Ann Arbor as Ohio State goes for its first win over Michigan since 2019.

That was always going to be the case for late November. The real question was whether FOX was going to keep Ohio State vs. Texas in its Big Noon Kickoff window.

We have the answer to that question. Yes, Ohio State vs. Texas will kick off at Noon on Aug. 30. And the hope for the Buckeyes to land a marquee home matchup in primetime will continue to just be hope.
