EAST LANSING, Mich. — Jeremiah Smith dropped jaws. Then he drew expletives everywhere — the good kind.

The Ohio State true freshman wide receiver made a pair of one-handed catches in the final minute of the first half at Michigan State Saturday night: The first catapulted the Buckeyes to the Spartans’ 17-yard line, and the second gave Ohio State a 24-7 lead before intermission.

Buckeyes starting quarterback Will Howard spun the 27-yard deep ball that Smith corralled near the sideline with his right hand while sandwiched by a pair of Michigan State defensive backs. Smith got an assist from his left hand before completing the reception, but the catch started with his right glove.

Ohio State backup quarterback Devin Brown was the catalyst for Smith’s second highlight-reel play. After a hard hit from Spartans linebacker Jordan Turner forced Howard to exit the game, Brown entered on 3rd-and-10 with 34 seconds left in the second quarter.

Not long after the snap, Brown whipped a dart to Smith, who again used his right paw to make an incredible reception, and this time Smith stuck to the ball like glue, in stride, and scored a touchdown.

That 17-yard score gave Smith 83 receiving yards and five receptions on the night heading into intermission.
