Tyleik Williams injury update: Ryan Day updates status of star DT
COLUMBUS — Ohio State senior defensive tackle Tyleik Williams was first listed by head coach Ryan Day as ‘day to day’ on Tuesday. The status of the star defender was again updated Wednesday night. It was considered to be a positive update.
Saturday was the best sign yet, though, that Williams could have played for the Buckeyes. He was not listed on the program’s official ‘availability report’ for the game against Purdue, which the Buckeyes easily won 45-0.
But Williams didn’t play against Purdue, and Ryan Day updated the status of Williams moving forward.
“Tyleik could have played,” Day said. Day also mentioned that the Buckeyes didn’t need him, but they expect him to be full-go next week.

Williams left the Buckeyes’ 20-13 win over then-No. 3 Penn State midway through the fourth quarter last weekend.
Williams appeared to take an awkward fall backward after being blocked on a 2nd-and-6 run from Nittany Lions running back Kaytron Allen that Buckeyes “nickel” cornerback Jordan Hancock quickly snuffed out.
The 6-foot-3, 327-pound Williams had to be helped off the field by Ohio State medical staff. He didn’t return to the game, but his defensive line stepped up in his absence, notably coming up with stop after stop on a goal line stand just minutes later.
Now Williams could be back on the field without even missing any action. He was not on the availability report for Ohio State, opening the door for him to play against Purdue. But he didn’t play. He will next weke.
