Buckeyes fall in AP Poll despite dominant Week 2 win
COLUMBUS — Ohio State did everything it could have done to prove it is one of the top teams in college football after two weeks — because it is.
The problem for the Buckeyes is that one of the teams that were ranked directly behind them in the AP Poll last week went on the road and destroyed a top-10 team.
As a result of Texas’ 31-12 win over Michigan in the Big House and Ohio State opening the season with a pair of wins over MAC programs, the Longhorns skipped over the Buckeyes to become the No. 2 team in the country. Ohio State is now No. 3 after its own emphatic win, a 56-0 decimation of Western Michigan.
Ohio State received five first-place votes. Georgia is No. 1 still, earning 54 first-place votes. Texas was No. 1 on four ballots this week. Alabama and Ole Miss round out the top five.
Future Buckeyes opponents ranked are Nebraska (No. 23), Penn State (No. 8) and Michigan (No. 17). The only other ranked Big Ten team ranked is No. 11 USC.

Ohio State now enters one of its two idle weeks before returning to action on Sept. 21 against Marshall. The Buckeyes aren’t calling it a ‘bye week’ or an ‘off week.’ The Buckeyes are calling it an ‘Improvement Week.’
They can certainly improve their standing in the AP Poll after slipping a spot. Of course, that has more to do with what Texas did than what the Buckeyes didn’t do.
