Tim May: With Will Howard leading, Buckeyes bringing huddles back to offense
COLUMBUS — Huddles are making a comeback, as fans will see Saturday when Ohio State hosts Akron in the 2024 season opener. Credit the use of play caller-to-quarterback radio communication, for the first time allowed in college football. What is cool is a little bit of classic football, the gathering of players around or in front of the quarterback as he not only calls a play but maybe also adds an observation, encouragement and/or upbraid is back. I asked transfer Ohio State starting quarterback Will Howard whether he likes it, him recalling first how he and Kansas State used the huddle extensively a few years ago.
