Trio of Buckeyes make midseason All-American team from The Athletic
COLUMBUS — It’s the middle of October, meaning the Ohio State football season has hit the midway point — as has the slate for most of college football.
With that in mind, the folks at The Athletic released their midseason All-American team on Wednesday, and a trio of Ohio State stars were selected.
Ohio State is one of five programs to have three players on the team. The Buckeyes are joined by Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss and Michigan as teams with three. Iowa has two.
On the offensive side of the ball, center Seth McLaughlin is a midseason All American from The Athletic. McLaughlin transferred in from Alabama after starting 25 games for the Crimson Tide during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He picked Ohio State after leaving Alabama last offseason, and he has proven to be among the best offensive linemen in college football — and potentially the best center.
And then there’s true freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who also made the All-America team from The Athletic at the midway point of the season. Smith has 32 catches for 553 yards and seven touchdown grabs. Smith became the first Ohio State player in program history to catch a touchdown in each of the Buckeyes’ first six games of the season when he grabbed a score on Saturday night in the loss to Oregon. He has routinely dazzled with one-handed catches to go along with just solid receiver play.

Flip it over to the defensive side of things, and another Alabama transfer is on the midseason All-America team for the Buckeyes. Safety Caleb Downs earned the nod from the folks at The Athletic. Even as the Buckeyes defense has had its fair share of struggles this season, Downs has been incredible for this defense. He had eight tackles and two pass breakups in the loss to Oregon on Saturday night. He was a Freshman All-American last season when he started every game for the Crimson Tide.
Pair of Buckeyes also earn midseason All-American honors from CBS Sports
Most of the country is now at the six-game mark, meaning college football is half-way over. With that in mind, the folks over at CBS Sports released their midseason All-America team, and a pair of Buckeyes players landed on the list.
McLaughlin and Downs were the two Buckeyes on the CBS Sports All-American team.
Ohio State is tied with Texas and Iowa as the only three programs with two players on the CBS Sports midseason All-America team. The Buckeyes have two of the five Big Ten selections after six games — one on each side of the ball.
