COLUMBUS — We’re still in the middle of the fallout from an all-time rivalry loss for Ohio State. The Buckeyes fell to Michigan as a three-score home favorite on Saturday.

But the Buckeyes are going to need to regroup quickly, because they’re still going to make the College Football Playoff — and they’re likely going to host a first-round matchup in the 12-team field.

The folks at Fanduel Sportsbook aren’t deterred by the loss to Michigan. They have Ohio State (+400) with the third-best odds to win the national title as of Monday evening, just behind Oregon (+350) and Texas (+380). Ohio State is ahead of Georgia (+550), Notre Dame (+800) and Penn State (+1000) on the odds board.

So while the loss to Michigan certainly will sting — and might sting forever — the Buckeyes must pick themselves up and get to work on winning the national championship. Las Vegas still thinks this team has the makeup to do it.

Buckeyes LB Gabe Powers will enter transfer portal

The first mover of the Ohio State offseason is third-year linebacker Gabe Powers. The Buckeyes reserve linebacker announced his intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens next week, making that announcement on Monday night.

The Buckeyes regular season ended Saturday at home in the loss to Michigan.

Powers will have two years of eligibility wherever he chooses to go.

“I want to thank all of Buckeye nation for the support I have received through my 3 years here at Ohio State,” Powers said in a statement on social media. “It has been a blessing being apart of buckeye nation. After much prayer and talking to my family, I have decided it’s in my best interest to enter the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility left. God bless all of you and go bucks. Proverbs 19:21”

Powers had an interception return for a touchdown in the Buckeyes season-opening win over Akron on Aug. 31. He was buried on the depth chart behind veterans this season, but he was slated to compete for playing time in his fourth year next offseason.

Instead, he’s moving on.

ICYMI: AD Ross Bjork has message for Ryan Day

When speaking to the Columbus Dispatch on Sunday, Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork had this to say about Ryan Day’s job security after Day’s fourth straight loss to Michigan:

“Our full focus right now is on the College Football Playoff and making a strong run,” Bjork said. “We have a ton to play for. We have a great team made up of talented players and great young men. Coach Day does a great job leading our program. He’s our coach. There’s going to be plenty of time to dissect what happened in the rivalry game the last couple years. But right now, we have to keep the main thing the main thing, and that’s focus on the values of the program, focus on why we lead the young men, focus on the mission and the playoff.”
