COLUMBUS — The folks in the desert are showing another sign that Ohio State is expected to be a national title contender this fall.

Fanduel Sportsbook recently debuted its betting lines for some of the biggest games of the college football season, months before toe meets leather on the college football season. It also released the too-early season-long regular-season win totals for each of the Power Conference teams in the sport.

Ohio State is tied with a handful of other heavyweight programs for the highest win total in college football to open the spring. The Buckeyes total is set at 10.5. They’re joined by new Big Ten rival Oregon with that lofty expectation from Las Vegas. Other programs with a win total of 10.5 include Georgia, Notre Dame and Texas.

Ohio State has one of the weaker nonconference slates in recent memory; the Buckeyes shouldn’t have any issues in the first three games of the year. And most of the conference schedule features matchups they’ll be heavily favored in.

But there are certainly road blocks. Road games at Oregon (Oct. 12) and Penn State (Nov. 2) are among the tougher games that any program has from around the country. And the end-of-year matchup against arch rival Michigan on Nov. 30 will be critical.

If Ohio State goes 2-1 or better in that stretch, the Buckeyes should be able to hit the over on that 10.5-win total. But two regular-season losses will keep the Buckeyes under that total.

Fanduel also releases Ohio State national title odds

The Buckeyes have the second best odds to win the national championship next fall, according to the folks at Fanduel Sportsbook. They’re behind only Georgia, who won two straight national titles in 2021 and 2022 before falling short of that goal this season. The Bulldogs odds are +300 right now.

Ohio State isn’t far behind, though, checking in with +480 odds to bring a national title back to Columbus for the first time in a decade — just a year after arch rival Michigan won the title.

Texas (+700), Oregon (+850), and Alabama (+1200) round out the top five of the too-early odds. Interestingly, the Buckeyes will travel to Oregon for a massive Big Ten showdown against the Ducks on Oct. 12 in a game that will determine who is in the driver’s seat for the new-look, 18-team Big Ten conference race.
