COLUMBUS — Ohio State is still celebrating its historic national championship win from two months ago. The Buckeyes have been honored by the athletic department in various ways since the football program beat Notre Dame 34-23 in Atlanta on Jan. 20.

After a report from CBS News last week stated the Buckeyes will be honored at the White House next month, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day confirmed that the visit to Washington D.C. is set, and the program is honored to be heading to that celebration.

Ohio State will be hosted at the White House by President Donald J. Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, a graduate of Ohio State.

“It’s an honor to be invited,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “We were formally invited. And, you know, it’s customary. And I remember growing up and watching the national championship teams go to the White House. And I always looked at that like, “man, what an honor that would be.” And so it’s part of the celebration of our team. And I think the Eagles are maybe going before us, but I think our date is April 14, yep. So, you know, looking forward to getting all that planned out.”

Ohio State will be the second sports team to visit the White House since Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, the same day the Buckeyes won the national title. The 2024 Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers visited the White House in February.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who won the Super Bowl, will also be visit the White House soon, that visit coming on April 28.

Ohio State will be the first college football national champion to visit the White House since the 2019 LSU team that won it all. The 2020 Alabama title team, the 2021 and 2022 Georgia teams and the 2023 Michigan team all skipped their invites to the White House or where not invited.

Ohio State, though, is accepting its invitation for April 14. The Buckeyes will wrap up spring and head to the President’s residence to be honored for their historic national title triumph.
