Scarlet Sunrise: Will Howard listed among top 10 QBs in NFL Draft
COLUMBUS — Ohio State quarterback Will Howard has 19 total touchdowns for the potent Buckeyes offense this season. He has been really good through six games.
The folks in NFL Draft circles are beginning to take notice of how good he has been — and how good he can be at the next level.
ESPN NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. listed his top 10 quarterbacks for next spring’s NFL Draft, and he has Howard as the No. 10 quarterback for the draft. Howard is behind Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke and Penn State’s Drew Allar among Big Ten signal callers.
Howard has plenty of chances to keep rising up draft boards as he and the Buckeyes aim for a Big Ten title, College Football Playoff appearance and national title win.
ICYMI: Lathan Ransom ‘day to day’ for Buckeyes
Ohio State safety Lathan Ransom is ‘day to day’ with an undisclosed injury. Head coach Ryan Day made that public Wednesday after declining to comment on a potential Ransom injury earlier this week.
“There’s nothing long term there,” Day said. “He’ll be day to day right now. He’s improving very well. We’ll see how tomorrow goes.”
Although Ransom missed three tackles at Oregon, per PFF, he had missed only three others all season. He’s allowed just 7.5 yards reception and just one touchdown this year, according to PFF. His 4.5 tackles for loss are tied with Caleb Downs for the second most on the team. Ransom’s forced a pair of fumbles, one against Marshall and another at Michigan State, and he notched a scoop-and-score touchdown in the opener versus Akron.
Day was asked Tuesday who the next man up would be at safety if Ransom can’t play Saturday when the Buckeyes take on Nebraska (Noon, FOX).

“Jaylen McClain’s done a nice job. Malik Harford’s done a nice job,” he said.
“Malik’s played some before, and Jaylen’s a good young player. So I’d probably say those guys, if you’re looking at some backups there.”

McLaughlin has been named a finalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy, the nation’s premier scholar-athlete award. The award finalists were announced by the National Football Foundation (NFF) and the College Hall of Fame. This award “annually recognizes the nation’s best football scholar-athlete — all divisions and the NAIA — based on combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership,” according to a release.
