Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players themselves. Birminology shows who the young men being recruited by Ohio State truly are — by talking to them. Today’s guest is Ohio State 2020 commitment Cameron Martinez, who verballed to the Buckeyes on July 4.

When Muskegon (Mich.) athlete Cam Martinez committed to Ohio State in early July, there was a lot of chatter about why the best football player in Michigan would leave his home state for the hated Buckeyes.

After a few months, the faux outrage passed. And when his senior season started, it was Martinez who was making all the noise.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Big Red standout dominated week in and week out en route to a third state title game appearance in his four years of high school. Martinez brought home three different awards as the Michigan player of the year, earning the title of Mr. Football while also being named the state’s best player by Gatorade and MLive.com. In winning that honor from MLive.com, he became the first player to win the award twice.

For all his success in Muskegon, things are about to get a whole lot different for Martinez.

Ohio State knows that the country’s No. 14-ranked athlete can be dynamic with the football in his hands. But the Buckeyes coaching staff sees him being as successful on defense as he has been on offense, and that’s where his career in Columbus will take him.

How has Cam Martinez adapted to the idea of playing on the other side of the ball? Will he sign in December? What’s his relationship with the Buckeyes like right now? Find out the answers to those things and more in this week’s edition of Birminology on Lettermen Row.
