COLUMBUS — Ohio State routinely brings in some of the best high school talent in the country.

The Buckeyes are fresh off a 77-21 victory against in-state opponent Toledo and the performance offered plenty of explanation for why top-rated prospects come to Ohio State.

Some of those commits in its No. 3 rated 2023 class took in Saturday’s game including four-star offensive linemen Luke Montgomery, Austin Siereveld and Josh Padilla.

That sentiment of talent is reflected in the latest On3 rankings evaluation for the 2023 class. Ohio State coach Ryan Day and his staff have pledges from 15 top-300 players. Seven of those committed prospects fall within the top 100.

Lettermen Row gives a quick run-through on the latest rankings evaluation and sees where the 2023 Ohio State pledges land throughout their class.

Risers

Four-star offensive lineman Luke Montgomery is one of the biggest risers in the latest evaluation update. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound Findlay (Ohio) talent shot up from No. 47 to No. 24. Montgomery is one of the longest committed prospects for Ohio State and will be an early enrollee in the winter.

Another in-state riser is four-star Winton Woods (Cincinnati) cornerback Jermaine Mathews. The 6-foot, 175-pound prospect moved up 20 spots into the No. 48 position. Mathews committed to the Buckeyes on July 1.

Ohio talent continues to rise in the evaluations and that includes four-star Glenville (Cleveland) linebacker Arvell Reese. Reese, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect, is one of the more physical defensive prospects in the Ohio State class and now ranks as the No. 120 overall prospect.

Other risers include four-star cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt (No. 40 from 42), four-star offensive lineman Austin Siereveld (No. 173 from 175) and four-star safety Malik Hartford (No. 182 from 183).

Fallers

There is no dispute on how talented the wide receivers are that earn Ohio State offers. Yet, in the latest rankings update, three of the Buckeyes commits — Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss and Bryson Rodgers — dropped in the top 300.

Tate dropped from 57 to 63, Inniss from 84 to 89 and Rodgers from 192 to 227.

Another pass catcher in tight end commit Jelani Thurman also dropped. The four-star Georgia native sits at No. 127 instead of 114.

The Buckeyes had a couple of defensive pledges fall as well. Defensive lineman Jason Moore, cornerback Kayin Lee and safety Jayden Bonsu all dropped spots in the new evaluations.

Moore fell 14 spots in No. 87. Lee now sits at 229 instead of 210, and Bonsu sits at 154 instead of 152.

Four-star safety commit Cedrick Hawkins also tumbled in the evaluations and now sits at 242 compared to his former 220 position.

Even

Only one Ohio State commit remained in the same position in the latest On300 evaluation.

Rolesville (North Carolina) wide receiver Noah Rogers holds firm at No. 17.
