COLUMBUS – Garrett Wilson and C.J. Stroud are continuing their upward trajectories as two of the best players in college football. And the Ohio State stars have been recognized once again for their performances.

Wilson was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week this week, and Stroud earned the conference’s Freshman of the Week following their games against Purdue in a 59-31 victory.

After missing the game against Nebraska, Wilson came back with a vengeance when pitted against an overmatched Boilermakers secondary. Wilson finished with 10 receptions for 126 yards and three touchdowns, and he added a 51-yard rushing touchdown to boot.

Wilson, who earned the first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week of his career, became the first Ohio State receiver to score four touchdowns in a game since Noah Brown against Oklahoma in 2016. And he registered the first four-touchdown game by a Buckeye since running back J.K. Dobbins against Michigan in 2019.

He is one of just two players in the Big Ten to score four or more touchdowns in a single game in 2021, joining Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker III, who scored five touchdowns vs. Michigan on Oct. 30 and four touchdowns at Northwestern on Sept. 3.

“I feel very confident with the ball in my hands,” Wilson said. “And I’ve always been someone that had the ball in my hand. So I mean, I’m just doing what I love. And I’ll say that again. I’m just doing what I love, doing what’s fun. So, it was fun being out there today, for sure.”

Distributing the ball to Wilson was Stroud, who earned his sixth Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor to get himself back on track for the Buckeyes.

Stroud finished 31-of-38 passes for 361 yards and a career-high-tying five touchdowns, which was tied for the seventh-most in program history. This was his sixth 300-yard passing performance of the season, and his 31 completions are tied for the sixth most in a single game in Ohio State history.

Stroud is now tied with the second-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy, according to the folks at VegasInsider, as he continues to grow into a star.
