COLUMBUS — Ohio State has been in this situation before.

This is the second time in three years that the Buckeyes have opened the season with a Big Ten road game, the first of which came in 2021 against Minnesota. This time the Buckeyes will hit the road for a tilt with Big Ten East rival Indiana.

Of course, Ohio State also opened the season at Indiana in 2017, Ryan Day’s first game as the Buckeyes offensive coordinator for then-head coach Urban Meyer. Now with Day in charge, the Buckeyes head back to Bloomington.

Ohio State hasn’t lost to Indiana since 1988. The Buckeyes have won 27 straight games over the Hoosiers, but they’ve not often started a quarterback with as little experience than they will Saturday. It’s part of what makes this weekend’s first game of the season so intriguing. Other points of interest include the Buckeyes defensive progress and the state of the offensive line heading into Week 1.

There are plenty of heavy topics that will finally come to a head Saturday for both the Buckeyes and the Hoosiers, neither of which have named a starting quarterback yet this week ahead of this weekend.
