Buckeyes reserve defensive back Jantzen Dunn enters transfer portal
COLUMBUS — Ohio State reserve defensive back Jantzen Dunn spent two years trying to work his way into the fold on the defensive depth chart.
He’ll now try to crack a rotation elsewhere.
Dunn entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, Lettermen Row has learned. He will have three years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.
A former four-star prospect from Bowling Green, Kentucky, Dunn was ranked the No. 157 overall player in the country in the 2021 recruiting class. He was rated as the No. 8 safety and was the No. 2 player in the state of Kentucky.
Dunn showed promise during his first year with the Buckeyes before suffering a season-ending injury last October.
“He’ll come out of the backend of this, and he’ll get stronger for it,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said in the aftermath of Dunn’s injury last year. “He probably doesn’t see that right now, and it’s hard. But unfortunately that’s this game and that’s life. He’s going to have a lot of great days as a Buckeye, but this week has obviously not been a great week for him.
“He’s going to have to recover and really grind every day to get stronger. Then we’ll get him back on the field.”

Dunn returned for the 2022 season, but he went through injuries in training camp this fall — and struggled to catch up in the following months.
Now he has a chance to go elsewhere and find a place to play. Jantzen Dunn is in the transfer portal.
Jantzen Dunn becomes second Buckeyes defensive back to enter transfer portal
Ohio State reserve defensive back Jaylen Johnson also entered the NCAA transfer portal, Lettermen Row learned Monday morning.
He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining.
Johnson was a former four-star recruit from the Buckeyes 2021 class. He was one of three safeties the Buckeyes brought on board in the class, along with Dunn and Andre Turrentine. All three have now left the program. Turrentine transferred to Tennessee following last season.
