Buckeyes hopeful to get full receiver group healthy for Toledo game

Ohio State has been without three receivers for most of the beginning of the season. The Buckeyes might be getting them all back soon.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming are expected to be back, according to Ohio State coach Ryan Day on Tuesday. Day was asked about those two — and Kamryn Babb — on Thursday. Turns out the Buckeyes are optimistic they’ll be at full strength in the receiver room moving forward.

“We’re hoping all those guys will be on the field in pregame warmups,” Day said. “And will be available for the weekend.”

If the Buckeyes can get their top receiver and two other options back this week, they’ll certainly be a better offense.

Ohio State vs. Toledo preview video

The Buckeyes are prepping for the Rockets inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center all week after taking down No. 8 Notre Dame in the opener and Arkansas State on Saturday. But the folks in Northwest Ohio aren’t going to sit around and just let the Buckeyes beat them badly without giving Ohio State their best shot.

Lettermen Row’s Spencer Holbrook is joined this time by Dave Briggs, who covers the Rockets for the Toledo Blade, to break down how Toledo stacks up against the Buckeyes, the new transfers Jason Candle has brought in to that program and who to watch out for on Saturday afternoon.

How ready is the Ohio State defense to have a third straight dominant outing? Will Toledo present any problems to the Buckeyes this weekend in Columbus? What are the expectations for this Saturday afternoon inside Ohio Stadium? Spencer from Lettermen Row and Dave from the Toledo Blade break it all down.

Don’t miss a full game preview with Spencer and Dave as they try to squeeze in so many different topics to discuss ahead of the matchup in the Horseshoe on Saturday.

Buckeyes freshman WR Kojo Antwi sheds black stripe

Freshman wide receiver Kojo Antwi reached a major freshman milestone this week, shedding his black stripe, which means he is officially with the Ohio State football program and beyond the ceremonial stripe removal from his helmet.

A former four-star prospect from Lambert High School (Suwanee, Georgia), Antwi is the third Buckeyes freshman wide receiver to lose his black stripe this year, joining Kyion Grayes and Kaleb Brown, who both lost theirs during training camp.

The Buckeyes obviously have plenty of talent ahead of the freshman class, and the first-year players will have a tough time finding the field during their freshman season at Ohio State. But Antwi is certainly putting in the necessary work to become a factor down the road for Brian Hartline and the wide receiver room.

He is the latest freshman to shed his black stripe. And with nonconference opponent Toledo coming in just two days, Antwi could see time on the field this Saturday to begin climbing the offensive depth chart.
