COLUMBUS — Another member of the Ohio State wide receiver room is leaving the program: Kaleb Brown is in the transfer portal.

The second-year wide receiver from St. Rita (Chicago) High School entered the portal on Sunday night, just hours before the spring window for players to enter came to a close.

He’ll have four years of eligibility wherever he chooses to continue his college career.

Kaleb Brown is the second Ohio State wide receiver to leave the program since spring football ended. Fellow second-year receiver Caleb Burton also entered the transfer portal earlier this month.

Brown arrived at Ohio State last summer as part of a four-man wide receiver haul for Brian Hartline in the recruiting class of 2022. He played very sparingly during his time with the Buckeyes as a true freshman last season as he transitioned from a high school running back to a wide receiver at the college level.

Kaleb Brown saw progress in his game this spring before he entered the transfer portal.

“I came a long way as far as development, mentally and physically, just as a receiver,” Brown said this spring. “I played running back [in high school]. Just making that transition over, just my footwork and everything like that, it’s just a whole, huge shift. And just coming off of winter workouts, it’s been a huge shift as far as like my speed and things like that. I feel way faster. … Now that I have a spring and everything in the books, everything slowed down for me, and I feel a lot faster.”

Brown had his sights set on becoming the starting punt returner for Ohio State, but moving up the wide receiver pecking order is a tall task.

“That’s probably one of my first goals right now,” Brown said. “Just getting on punt return and making an impact there first.”

The Buckeyes return all of their receiving leaders from a year ago and brought in another four-man recruiting class of pass-catchers, who impressed this spring.

Kaleb Brown was the No. 107 overall player in the country in the class of 2022. He was ranked as the No. 20 wide receiver and No. 3 player in the state of Illinois coming out of high school. Brown chose Ohio State over Michigan and plenty of other suitors.

But the 5-foot-10, 196-pound athlete did not compete for playing time last year, and now he is on his way out of the Buckeyes program.

After just one year with Ohio State, Kaleb Brown is in the transfer portal with four years remaining in his college football career.

This is a breaking news story. Lettermen Row will have more information when it becomes available.
