Former Notre Dame athlete Lorenzo Styles Jr. commits to Ohio State
COLUMBUS — Lorenzo Styles Jr. is heading back home: the former Notre Dame playmaker has committed to Ohio State out of the transfer portal.
The former four-star recruit, Pickerington native, Buckeyes legacy and soon-to-be defensive back chose the Buckeyes after taking a visit to Ohio State this weekend. He is the first player to commit to the Buckeyes from the transfer portal since the window opened in mid-April.
Styles entered the transfer portal on April 21 after two seasons with the Fighting Irish, shortly after their spring game.
Lorenzo Styles Jr. chose Notre Dame over Ohio State after an interesting recruitment in which the Buckeyes wanted him to play defensive back. He picked the offensive side of the ball — and the Fighting Irish. But after 54 catches for 684 yards and two receiving touchdowns in South Bend, Styles entered the transfer portal with the desire to play defensive back, the same spot the Buckeyes wanted him to play all along.
Ohio State gives him the chance to do that alongside his brother, Sonny Styles, a five-star player from the class of 2022 who is expected to have a major role in the Buckeyes secondary this fall.

Lorenzo Styles Jr. arrived in South Bend as a four-star recruit and the No. 70-ranked prospect in the nation from the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Once he went into the transfer portal, Ohio State was always a likely destination. Now he has a chance to play where his father played and his brother currently plays. It’s the school just up the road from where he was raised and went to high school.
Lorenzo Styles is officially heading home to play for the Buckeyes. After two seasons at wide receiver, he’ll suit up for the Buckeyes as a full-time defensive back in a blossoming Ohio State secondary.
