COLUMBUS — The Ohio State center pipeline to the NFL is back up and running: Luke Wypler is officially off the board in the NFL Draft.

The two-year starting center for the Buckeyes was selected No. 190 overall by the Cleveland Browns, becoming the fourth straight Ohio State center to be selected in the first four rounds of an NFL Draft. His predecessor, Josh Myers, was a second-round choice two years ago.

Wypler is the sixth Ohio State player to be selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, joining three first-round picks from Thursday night and a pair of second-round selections.

Former Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud was taken No. 2 overall by the Houston Texans, while left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. was selected No. 6 overall by the Arizona Cardinals and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba went No. 20 overall to the Seattle Seahawks. Former Buckeyes defensive end Zach Harrison was taken No. 75 overall by the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. Offensive tackle Dawand Jones was a fourth-round selection, also to the Cleveland Browns, at No. 111 overall.

Luke Wypler was one of the top centers in the Big Ten — and in all of college football — last fall, becoming an NFL Draft prospect after starting for two seasons at Ohio State. Wypler was thought by many at Ohio State to be returning for a third season as the starting center, but he chose to declare for the NFL Draft in January after the Peach Bowl loss to Georgia.

He believes leaving after three years in the Buckeyes program was the right decision.

“Coming out was something that really weighed on me,” Wypler said at the NFL Combine on Saturday morning. “Having a great program like Ohio State and the NFL is two decisions. I guess you couldn’t have really made a bad decision. I kept telling myself whatever I choose I knew I was going to be all right.”

It’s now clear that the NFL also believed Wypler can be a difference-maker at the next level. He might even be able to step in and immediately start at either guard or center.

Luke Wypler has a chance to do so in Cleveland after he was selected No. 190 overall in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.
