COLUMBUS — The Ohio State pipeline of wide receivers to the NFL has yet another member: Marvin Harrison Jr. has officially been selected as a first-round pick.

But Harrison has set a new bar for former Buckeyes receivers: he’s the highest-drafted wide receiver in Ohio State history. He earned that by being selected No. 4 overall on Thursday night by the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals took former Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. with the No. 6 overall pick last year.

He joins former Buckeyes wide receivers Joey Galloway (8th overall to Seattle in 1995), Terry Glenn 7th overall to New England in 1996), David Boston (8th overall to Arizona in 1997), Ted Ginn Jr. (9th overall to Miami in 2007) and Garrett Wilson (10th overall to New York Jets in 2022) as top-10 receivers from Ohio State.

Harrison Jr. is the fourth Ohio State wide receiver to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in the last three drafts, joining Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave, who went No. 10 and No. 11 overall to the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, respectively, in 2022, and Jaxon Smith Njigba, who was selected with the 20th pick to the Seattle Seahawks last April.

The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison Sr., Marvin Harrison Jr. was twice named a unanimous All-American selection, the 2023 Biletnikoff Award winner and a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2023.

He finished the 2023 regular season with 1,211 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown. That production came with a spotlight on him as the focal point of the Ohio State offense, leading to plenty of double-coverage efforts from opposing defenses. Of course, it didn’t matter. Harrison still finished with eight 100-yard receiving games this season.

Harrison Jr. had 77 catches for 1,263 receiving yards and 14 touchdown grabs in 2022, finishing as the runner-up for the Biletnikoff Award that season.

Marvin Harrison Jr.’s full list of accomplishments can be found below:

  • 2022 and 2023 Big Ten Wide Receiver of the Year
  • 2022 Unanimous All-American
  • 2022 Biletnikoff Award runner-up
  • 2023 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year
  • 2023 Heisman Trophy finalist
  • 2023 Biletnikoff Award winner
  • 2023 AP Big Ten Player of the Year
  • 2023 All-American from The Athletic, CBS Sports, the Walter Camp Football Foundation and the Football Writers Association of America (so far)
  • Holds record for most 100-yard receiving games in Ohio State history
  • Became only Buckeyes player to ever have back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons

Before his rookie year begins in the NFL, he can now add yet another career accomplishment to his resume as the highest-drafted receiver in Buckeyes program history.

Now he’s heading to Arizona as a top-10 draft selection to begin his NFL career.
