COLUMBUS — Ohio State made the most of its idle week.

After a week of practice inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, the Buckeyes had the weekend off to rest, recover, watch football around the country and prepare for a tough matchup against an undefeated Maryland team.

Maryland is coming off a dominant 44-17 home win over Indiana. The Terrapins are 5-0 for the first time since 2001, when they were a member of the ACC, won that league and finished the season 10-2.

So an unexpected battle of unbeaten teams has once against popped up on the Buckeyes schedule. And Ohio State will host Maryland as a 19.5-point favorite over the Terrapins, according to Fanduel Sportsbook.

It’ll be the fourth time in five games that the Buckeyes are favored by double digits. The lone single-digit line came when they were favored by 3 on the road over Notre Dame. The total, also according to Fanduel Sportsbook, has been set at 57.5

Ohio State has never lost to Maryland, entering this game with a perfect 8-0 record. The two programs have met every year since 2014 except 2020, when their matchup was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Buckeyes have hosted Maryland four times, winning by double digits in all four of the matchups. The closest the Terrapins have come? 21 points. And it’s been ugly at the Horseshoe since Ryan Day took over as head coach. His offense is averaging 69.5 points per game at home against Maryland since Day took over.

Now the Buckeyes are again a double-digit favorite at home over Maryland. Only this time, the Terrapins are much better than normal, and they have reason to believe an upset is possible.

  • Ohio State is 1-2-1 against the spread this season, failing to cover against both Indiana and Youngstown State but covering against Western Kentucky and pushing at Notre Dame
  • The Buckeyes have went over the total just once in their first four games
  • Ohio State has failed to cover the 25-point spread in a 43-30 win over Maryland last season
  • Ohio State is 2-0 against the spread at home against Maryland under Ryan Day. The Buckeyes have averaged 69.5 points per game in those two games.
  • Maryland is 3-2 against the spread this season.
  • Maryland has covered the spread in its last three games
  • The total has gone over in three of the Terrapins’ five games played so far this season
  • Ohio State is 1-4 against the spread in its last five Big Ten games
