INDIANAPOLIS — Another year, another talented batch of Buckeyes stars meeting with teams to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine.

Eight former Ohio State players are in attendance at this year’s NFL Combine: quarterback C.J. Stroud, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, offensive tackles Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones, center Luke Wypler, defensive end Zach Harrison, cornerback Cameron Brown and safety Ronnie Hickman.

It’s the first time each of them are speaking to reporters since the heartbreaking loss in the College Football Playoff semifinal to Georgia on New Year’s Eve.

Defensive end and former Ohio State captain Zach Harrison kicked off the week of Buckeyes appearances at the NFL Combine, and, of course, he was asked about the Georgia game.

“We knew we can hang with them from the first snap,” Harrison said. “We didn’t go in there believing we were underdogs. We went in there to win the game. It sucks the way the way the game ended and the way we couldn’t get the win. But I wouldn’t I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It’s a memory I’ll have forever. I loved my time at Ohio State. Obviously, I wanted to get the win, but it’s football and it happens.”

Now they’re all on to the NFL, and plenty of them have a lot to prove this week. For some of the Buckeyes, the on-field work will be what wins scouts over and gives Ohio State yet another batch of top draft choices. For others, it’s all about what happens in the meeting rooms.

“I really want to do well in my interviews,” Harrison said. “I’ve played a lot of football at Ohio State so a lot of teams know my athletic profile and what I can do on the field. I just want to let teams know the person I am. … Really just everything. I want to put my best foot forward and showcase my skills.”

All eight of them played a lot of football for Ohio State. And now they’re all set to join the NFL level, a dream that began with the Buckeyes and now heads to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine.

All eight have a chance to be special at the next level thanks to their development under the Buckeyes program.

“I feel you’re going to get a playmaker, a guy who’s going to be able to lead, be a leader in the locker room,” Harrison said. “Guys are going to gravitate toward me because of my hard work and my personality.

“And I’m a guy on the field who likes to make plays, and I like getting TFLs and change the game.”

Spencer Holbrook and Andy Backstrom are in Indianapolis for the Combine. We’re going to be at the Combine all week to break down all of the Buckeyes in attendance. As the combine kicks off for the former Buckeyes, there’s plenty to talk about. The offseason doesn’t mean we’re slowing down.
