Buckeyes add former NFL head coach Joe Philbin as offensive analyst
COLUMBUS — Ohio State is reportedly adding a new offensive analyst into the fold this offseason.
Former NFL head coach and Super Bowl winning assistant coach Joe Philbin will join the Buckeyes program as an analyst. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Philbin was the offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers from 2007-2011, winning Super Bowl XLV while calling plays for an Aaron Rodgers-led offense. Following the Super Bowl win, Philbin landed a head coaching job in the NFL, taking over for the Miami Dolphins. He coached the Dolphins from 2012-2015, amassing a head coaching record of 26-30.
After being fired by the Dolphins, Philbin became the assistant head coach and offensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts for two seasons before landing a job with the Packers as their offensive line coach and interim head coach in 2018. He most recently was the Dallas Cowboys offensive line coach from 2020-2022.
Philbin has plenty of experience in the college coaching ranks, as well. He was a college football coach from 1984-2002, making notable stops as offensive line coach at Tulane, Ohio University and Iowa, where he was the offensive line coach for Kirk Ferentz in his first three seasons at the head of the Hawkeyes program.
Ohio State is no stranger to adding former head coaches to its staff. Former Indiana coach Kevin Wilson was the offensive coordinator for the Buckeyes for seven seasons prior to earning the head coaching job at Tulsa this offseason. Former Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads spent the 2021 season on the Ohio State staff as a defensive analyst.

And the Buckeyes also added longtime offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Todd Fitch to the staff prior to the 2022 season, and he will be with the staff again this fall.
Now Philbin is the latest decorated coach to join the Buckeyes staff under Ryan Day. The former Super Bowl winning offensive mind will help out with the Ohio State offense moving forward.
