ATLANTA — Ohio State opened as a significant underdog when the Peach Bowl matchup against Georgia was announced nearly a month ago.

Not much has changed in the weeks leading up to the massive semifinal clash inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Buckeyes remain a significant underdog, as the line currently sits at Georgia -6.5, according to The Action Network. That is actually down a point from earlier in the month, when the hook went the other way, and Georgia was favored by 7.5.

Ohio State will be an underdog in the New Years Eve matchup, playing that role for the first time since the national title game against Alabama two years ago. It’s a role the Buckeyes don’t mind being in at all.

“When you sign to come to Ohio State, you sign for games like this and opportunities like this,” Ohio State safety Lathan Ransom said. “And I think — considering us being the underdog, I think we should take pride in that. For me personally, I’ve been the underdog my whole life, so I almost prefer sometimes being the underdog.”

Ohio State doesn’t often get the chance to play the underdog role of a doubted team with a lot to prove and little to lose. That can be used to the Buckeyes advantage on Saturday night.

The line has barely moved, and Ohio State is OK playing as a playoff underdog against the defending national champs.
