ICYMI: Buckeyes expect healthy TreVeyon Henderson after absence in Maryland game

Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson led the Buckeyes in rushing through four weeks. He looked like he was returning to his superstar form from his freshman season.

But he was the lone Buckeyes starter to miss the game Saturday against Maryland due to an undisclosed injury. And while Ohio State coach Ryan Day wouldn’t elaborate on just what was ailing Henderson to keep such a talented player off the field, he did make sure to mention that Henderson won’t miss any more time.

He is expected to be back for the Buckeyes when they travel to Purdue next weekend (Noon on Peacock).

“So, we expect him to be ready for next week,” said Day. “It was one of those things where the question was, ‘If he played in this game, could he have a setback if something happened in the game?’ The answer was yes. And just based on how everything played out last year, the decision was made to hold him this week to make sure that he was full-go next week, because we know we got a lot of football ahead of us.”

Ohio State struggled to run the football in Henderson’s absence, rushing for just 83 yards, not including sacks. That’s 2.8 yards per carry, and its not good enough.

Chip Trayanum led the Buckeyes with 61 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Miyan Williams had 23 yards on six totes for Ohio State. Day and the staff maintain they have confidence in the backfield, even if Henderson isn’t in the lineup.
