Photos as Ohio State cruises past Purdue
COLUMBUS – There was no upset in Columbus on Saturday. Not even close. Ohio State took control of its home game against Purdue from the start.
The Buckeyes were knotted up at 7-7 with the Boilermakers early in the first quarter, but Ohio State rattled off 28 consecutive points to put its foot down. Then, Ryan Day’s squad cruised the rest of the way en route to a 59-31 win over its Big Ten opponent.
After two straight weeks of the Ohio State offense being stuck in neutral, the Buckeyes looked entirely in sync and in rhythm.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud lit up the Boilermakers porous pass defense, evenly distributing the ball all over the yard between his big three of receivers Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Garrett Wilson – who made a statement in his return following an injury that kept him out against Nebraska last week.
And TreVeyon Henderson added an explosive element as well as the Buckeyes moved to 9-1 this season and solidified their standing as one of the best teams in college football.

The Buckeyes offense netted more than 600 total yards. On the defensive side of the ball, though, Ohio State was not quite as dominant.
Purdue finished with nearly 500 yards of total offense, but the Buckeyes forced quarterback Aidan O’Connell to use quick-hitting plays – and not explosive plays – throughout the game to move the ball.
In the end, it all spelled an eighth consecutive win for the Buckeyes as they can now look ahead to a showdown with Michigan State next weekend.
