Buckeyes current class remaining optimistic on recruiting trail

Ohio State has had a rough last couple of weeks on the recruiting trail, and that continued — kind of — over the weekend.

Four-star cornerback Dijon Johnson decomitted from the Buckeyes on Saturday, adding to the woes on the trail in Columbus. But Ohio State certainly isn’t worried. No, the Buckeyes 2023 commitments are quite confident they’ll still finish with one of the top classes in the country despite dropping to No. 4 nationally after Johnson’s decommitment.

Class leaders such as offensive lineman Luke Montgomery, wide receivers Brandon Inniss and Carnell Tate, running back Mark Fletcher and receiver Bryson Rodgers all tweeted out messages about how good this class can still be.

Don’t bet against the Buckeyes to still make the class one of the best in the country.

Four-star quarterback Brock Glenn commits to Ohio State

Ohio State has finally landed a pledge at the most important position in the game: Brock Glenn has committed to the Buckeyes.

The four-star Lausanne Collegiate School (Memphis, Tennessee) quarterback chose Ohio State over Florida State, Auburn, TCU, LSU and others Saturday afternoon. Glenn is the answer at quarterback for the Buckeyes 2023 class after going months without a clear-cut direction from prospects throughout the country.

Brock Glenn is the No. 20 rated quarterback prospect and the No. 9 player in Tennessee according to the On3 Consensus Rankings.

Glenn potentially will pilot an offensive machine with his fellow classmates. Ohio State has four offensive line commits, four-star running back Mark Fletcher, and an impressive quartet of wide receivers in Carnell TateBrandon InnissNoah Rogers and Bryson Rodgers. Glenn also joins tight ends Ty Lockwood and Jelani Thurman for another Buckeyes offensive cycle that boasts plenty of talent and skill level.

Ohio State gains first commitment from 2025 recruiting cycle

Ohio State picked up its first commitment in the 2025 cycle Friday night: Jontae Gilbert has committed to the Buckeyes.

The 6-foot, 161-pound Douglass (Atlanta, Georgia) safety becomes the first prospect to make a pledge to coach Ryan Day and defensive backs coaches Perry Eliano and Tim Walton for the 2025 class.

While an early commitment isn’t unusual, Ohio State typically earns commitments for far-out classes through in-state prospects and those familiar with the program. Gilbert camped with the Buckeyes on June 9 and picked up his offer from the Buckeyes a month prior on May 9.

The Peach State native has four offers from Power 5 schools including Arkansas, Pitt and his hometown school Georgia Tech.

The 2025 cycle still might be in the distance, but Jontae Gilbert gave a reason for the Buckeyes to look toward the future.

He’s committed to Ohio State.
