Taking closer look at state of Buckeyes running backs room
The summer offseason is in full swing, and Lettermen Row is trying to survive it with our annual Position Week breakdowns. By the time all nine units and coaching staff at Ohio State have been covered, training camp and media days will nearly have arrived, and the return of football in the Horseshoe will be just around the corner. We’re continuing our positional weeks with a group that’s full of talent and potential: running back.
COLUMBUS — When he’s healthy, TreVeyon Henderson is the unquestioned top running back on the Ohio State depth chart.
With plenty of respect due to Miyan Williams, the Buckeyes leading rusher a season ago, Dallan Hayden and Chip Trayanum, who filled in nicely last year and should have a big role this fall, and Evan Pryor, who was set for a breakout last season before an injury, Henderson is among the best backs in the country when he’s not battling a foot injury. That ailment held him back from proving it last season.
Good news for the Buckeyes, bad news for defenses everywhere: Henderson feels much better, and he’s ready to show why he still belongs in the top tier of running backs around the nation.
“I feel great,” Henderson said. “I feel like I’m back to myself. I started doing some individual work, but they still want to keep me out of team work just to be safe. When I come back, they want me to come back for good.”
“ … I feel like I’m 100 percent. I’m running full speed, I’m back to cutting. I’m feeling great now.”

If a healthy Henderson is at the top, the battle to become the No. 2 running back is well underway. It’s led by Williams, but the talent in the room make the competition for carries one of the most heated of the summer.
