COLUMBUS — Ohio State cleared another major hurdle Saturday.

No, Wisconsin isn’t the same caliber of opponent as Penn State or Notre Dame was, but Saturday night in a hostile Camp Randall Stadium, the Buckeyes proved their mettle with a double-digit win over the Badgers to move to 8-0 (5-0 in the Big Ten).

Another road test awaits this weekend, however. The Buckeyes are officially opening as a 19.5-point road favorite — and the total is set at 41.5 — over Rutgers this upcoming weekend, but this isn’t going to be an easy challenge after beating Penn State at home and surviving on the road against Wisconsin.

All lines are according to Fanduel Sportsbook.

Rutgers is 6-2 and coming off an idle week after taking down Michigan State and Indiana. The Scarlet Knights are having their best year under former Buckeyes defensive coordinator Greg Schiano.

Ohio State has taken notice of the resurgent Scarlet Knights this season.

“The next one will be a battle next week against Rutgers,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said after beating Wisconsin on Saturday night. “Greg’s doing a good job with those guys. The good thing is we’re getting battle-tested, as well. I think the more battles you get into, the more poise you have because you have something to reference. You don’t panic. But again, we’re going to watch the film and throw coffee against the wall again, I’m sure.”

Ohio State will get back to work this week after another big road win. The Buckeyes keep adding to their already-impressive resume.

Now they must hit the road again as another double-digit favorite — this time at Rutgers next weekend at Noon on CBS.

  • Ohio State is 4-3-1 against the spread this season. The Buckeyes had covered the spread in every game since it started 0-2 against the number, with the exception of the push at Notre Dame. But they failed to cover by a half-point against Wisconsin.
  • Ohio State is 9-0 all-time against Rutgers.
  • The closest margin of victory in matchups between Ohio State and Rutgers is 22 points
  • The Buckeyes have went over the total just once in their eight games this season
  • Rutgers is 6-1-1 against the spread this season
  • Rutgers is 4-1 against the spread at home this season
  • The over is 4-4 in Rutgers games this season
  • Ohio State was a 41.5-point favorite over Rutgers last season
  • The Buckeyes are 6-3 against the spread in games against the Scarlet Knights
