Buckeyes cornerback Ryan Turner plans to enter transfer portal
COLUMBUS — Ohio State second-year cornerback Ryan Turner announced he’ll be entering the transfer portal. He’ll have three years of eligibility.
He made the announcement to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Turner, who starred at Chaminade-Modonna Prep High School in Hollywood, Florida, before coming to Ohio State, originally committed to the Buckeyes as part of the 2022 recruiting class, when he was the No. 445 overall player in the country, the No. 47 cornerback and the No. 57 player in the state of Florida for his class.
But the Buckeyes had other talented defensive backs on the depth chart ahead of him for the last two years, making it tough to find a role on the field. And with more defensive backs coming in to compete as part of the loaded 2024 class, it was hard to see Turner carving out a role.
Now he can try doing so elsewhere.
Turner provided a statement to On3 about his decision:
First and foremost, I would like to thank God for blessing me with a talent and the love for a sport that I know without Him would be impossible. A heartfelt thank you to my parents, my siblings and my family for your unwavering support.
Thank you to THE Ohio State coaching staff, my teammates and Buckeye Nation for an unforgettable experience that will forever be a part of my football/college experiences.
After speaking with my family and weighing my options, I have made the decision to enter my name in the transfer portal. Thank you again Buckeye Nation.

Pryor committed to Ohio State as part of the loaded 2021 recruiting class. He was the No. 92 overall player in his class, and he was the No. 6 running back and the No. 5 player in the state of North Carolina.
Pryor was on the cusp of breaking out in the spring and offseason of 2022 before a bad knee injury sidelined him for an entire season. He came back healthy this offseason but couldn’t quite get back to the same level he was previously at, and he was stuck on the Buckeyes depth chart.
