COLUMBUS — Ohio State needs offensive tackles in its 2023 class. One of the top tackles on the board is keeping the Buckeyes in the running for his pledge.

The Buckeyes made the cut as Thayer Academy (Brockton, MA) four-star offensive tackle Samson Okunlola trimmed his list to nine on Thursday. Ohio State is joined by Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Penn State, Miami and Michigan State.

Okunlola doesn’t have a trip to Ohio State scheduled yet, but Justin Frye and the Buckeyes are working to get one set up for Okunlola to make the trip to Columbus for a pivotal visit as they search for tackles.

Lettermen Row recruiting expert Jeremy Birmingham had this to say about Okunlola back in February:

Ryan Day is from New Hampshire and the Buckeyes have to be hoping this Northeast roots can work some magic in the recruitment of Chase Bisontis and Samuel Okunlola. Bisontis has been a top target of Ohio State for the past year and there’s been no slowdown under Justin Frye. He and Bisontis — a combo-type lineman capable of inside or outside line play — have hit it off quickly. Okunlola told Lettermen Row that the addition of Frye was a boost for Ohio State in his recruitment as well. He’s a potential five-star talent with a true offensive tackle frame and that’s absolutely imperative for the Buckeyes in this recruiting cycle.

Ohio State appears to still be in position to be in the running for Okunlola. Making the final nine is another step in the right direction for Justin Frye and the Buckeyes.
