Buckeyes name players of game from blowout win over Rutgers
The players of the game from the latest Ohio State blowout were easy to see as the 49-10 win was unfolding. All the Buckeyes football program had to do was make the recognitions official on Sunday.
So it did just that. Tailback Miyan Williams was named Offensive Player of the Game for his 189-yard, five-touchdown performance on Saturday night against Rutgers. He out-gained Rutgers and was impressive in his first start of the season.
On defense, linebacker Steele Chambers and defensive lineman Zach Harrison shared Defensive Player of the Game honors. Chambers had 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and an interception. His picked off pass was the product of a tipped pass from Harrison, who also had a forced fumble to go along with his two tackles and the pass deflection.
Punter Jesse Mirco was named Special Teams Player of the Game for his punting, and he also ran for a first down late in the game.
It was already known who was going to be the players of the game. All the Buckeyes needed to do was make the announcement official.
Ohio State heavily favored at Michigan State
The Buckeyes are nearly halfway through their season, yet they haven’t played a road game yet, a weird scheduling quirk made possible by the nonconference portion and the Big Ten slate.
So for the first time all season, Ohio State will take its incredible offense and top-20 defense on the road in league play for a showdown with Michigan State, a loser in each of its last three games. The Buckeyes will show up in East Lansing on Saturday for a 4 p.m. kickoff on FOX as a 23-point road favorite, according to the folks at the Circa Sportsbook. The total is set at 61.5.
Ohio State has dominated in the first five games of the season, trampling Wisconsin and Rutgers in the last two games leading up to this road trip. While the Buckeyes seem to be ascending, Michigan State is taking massive steps backward; the Spartans have lost three straight to Washington, Minnesota and Maryland.
