BREAKING: Buckeyes land commitment from former Alabama IOL Seth McLaughlin
COLUMBUS — Ohio State is bringing in offensive line reinforcements.
Former Alabama OL Seth McLaughlin has committed to Ohio State, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Saturday morning.
He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining with the Buckeyes after playing four years at Alabama. He can play center, like he did for the Crimson Tide, or guard on the interior of the offensive line.
“I really like the offensive line coach, Coach Frye, and trust him to get me to where I want to go as a player,” McLaughlin told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
McLaughlin has been in the news recently after his performance in the Rose Bowl semifinal against Michigan. He had a few bad snaps that harmed the Crimson Tide as Michigan advanced to the national title game.
“You know, that’s something that’s been a little bit of an issue for us all year long,” Nick Saban said. “You know, when you go on a clap, and you use that as a noise cadence, every time somebody hits a pad on defense, they’re not allowed to clap on defense, which is actually what happened in the Auburn game when we got behind the eight ball before the fourth and 31 play when the ball got snapped, and the quarterback wasn’t ready for it, you had a huge loss.”
But that shouldn’t cloud what McLaughlin has done during his career in the SEC. In four years, McLaughlin has started 25 career games for the Crimson Tide and has given up just one sack in his entire career.

But after years at Alabama, McLaughlin is heading to Ohio State.
“I am incredibly thankful for Coach Saban and the tremendous blessing of playing for the University of Alabama for the past four years. This experience has been one of a lifetime, and I am grateful for all the coaches and teammates who believed in me,” McLaughlin wrote in a statement upon entering the portal.
“With that being said, yesterday my family and I decided that it is in my best interest to explore my options in the transfer portal.”
Now after a visit to Ohio State, Seth McLaughlin has found a home. He is committed to Ohio State for his final year of college football, providing a big boost to the Buckeyes offensive line.
