Viewing Guide: How to watch Buckeyes in annual spring game

COLUMBUS — Ohio State could not have asked for a better April Saturday to host its annual spring game inside the Horseshoe.
Warm weather, thousands of fans, plenty of hope that the program can get back to the top of the Big Ten after a two-year hiatus. Head coach Ryan Day has good reason to be excited for the spring showcase.
“It’s supposed to be a great day. I think we’re north of 50,000 seats sold so far, which for mid-week, is a pretty good number as it’s trending,” Day said. “We’re hoping to get even more on Saturday. It should be a great turnout and a great opportunity for our guys to play in front of a good crowd.”
The No. 1 priority for most watching the spring game on Saturday: getting a first look at the quarterbacks who hope to be the Buckeyes starter this fall. That took a direct hit on Wednesday, however, when Day announced that second-year quarterback Devin Brown won’t be available Saturday due to a procedure.
Still, Saturday will be a big day for the program. And Lettermen Row has the details you need to know about the annual spring game, whether you’re watching at home or heading to the Horseshoe.
Ohio State spring game time, details
Ohio State will kick off the 101st season of the Horseshoe on Saturday with the spring game.
Offense scoring will be traditional. On the other side, the Buckeyes defense gets six points for a takeaway touchdown, three points for a takeaway, three points for a three-and-out, two points for a sack and one point for a forced punt.
Coach Ryan Day said the Buckeyes will play four quarters Saturday. He added that he might incorporate a running clock in the second half, perhaps just for the final frame. There will be a 10-minute halftime.

News and notes
- Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback Devin Brown will miss Saturday’s spring game with an injury to a finger on his throwing hand. Brown had a procedure on that hand Wednesday, head coach Ryan Day said. Day is optimistic about the timeline of Brown’s return, however.
- Day said he isn’t sure if Syracuse transfer safety Ja’Had Carter will be able to go for the spring game. Carter suffered an apparent right knee injury on Student Appreciation Day earlier this month.
- Miyan Williams — who has missed some time this spring with an undisclosed injury that Day believes is nothing long term — will be available for the “thud drives” Saturday.
