Ohio State spring game: Live Blog as Buckeyes cap off spring in Horseshoe
COLUMBUS — Ohio State is gearing up for one of its biggest days on the calendar. Everything surrounding the spring game has a chance to make it even bigger.
With warm weather and sunshine in the forecast, the Buckeyes are set to hold their annual spring game on Saturday at noon. Tickets are going quickly as fans want to get a glimpse of what is to come this fall. Recruits are setting up their visits to see the Ohio State game-day atmosphere, some of them doing so for the first time. And it’s a chance for up-and-coming Buckeyes players to showcase what they can do for the football team in the fall.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day is certainly excited to see a packed Ohio Stadium on Saturday.
“It’s supposed to be a great day. I think we’re north of 50,000 seats sold so far, which for mid-week, is a pretty good number as it’s trending,” Day said. “We’re hoping to get even more on Saturday. It should be a great turnout and a great opportunity for our guys to play in front of a good crowd.”
Without quarterback Devin Brown, who is out due to an injury on his throwing hand, the Buckeyes won’t get to see both quarterbacks in action. But Saturday still serves as a chance for two scholarship quarterbacks to showcase their skills.
“For Kyle and [Oregon State transfer] Tristan [Gebbia], it’s a great opportunity on Saturday to put it on the field,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “Because ultimately, you can say that it’s the same. It’s not. It’s just not the same being in here and practicing in front of just a small group as opposed to being in the stadium.”
