COLUMBUS — Ohio State recruits on a national level because it can do so.

Only a few brands nationally can do what the Buckeyes do on the recruiting trail, and the brand power is a driving factor in that.

Ohio State has one of the largest alumni bases in the country. It has brand recognition, name recognition, long-term football success and even a logo that stands out.

Those are just a few of the reasons its so easy for the Buckeyes to take a national approach to recruiting. Tim May, long-time Buckeyes reporter, knows that better than anyone. A native of Lufkin, Texas, May has been covering Ohio State for nearly 40 years.

And he sees the power of the Buckeyes brand every day, especially when he’s down in Texas visiting with family, as he was for the latest edition of the Tim May Show this week.

“Ohio State has a reach,” May said. “It is definitely Buckeye Nation for a reason. It’s called it for a reason because it has a reach. There are only a handful of schools that really have that true national reach, where they can where they can go and attract someone from any corner of this country, including Hawaii as Ohio State knows. There are kids who go from here and go other places, but the big time schools can come in and immediately [know Ohio State].”

His brother, Tony May, completely agrees. And in today’s day and age, it’s even easier for the Buckeyes to take that national approach to recruiting.

“I think the electronic world we’re in today, it’s easy for kids all over,” Tony May said. “It’s both ways. I think it’s easier for colleges to locate players and it’s also easier for players and high school coaches to publicize their players out to to get them seen.”

Tim May was on the road visiting family of his own, he stopped in to Veterans Memorial High School to talk to four-star Ohio State running back target James Peoples and find out exactly where the interest in the Buckeyes comes from.

And stemming from that conversation, which was featured in last week’s edition of the Tim May Show, Tim and Tony May broke down the brand power Ohio State possesses this week.

The May brothers talked about all of that and much more on the latest Tim May Show. Make sure to check out past episodes of the Tim May Show, as well.
