Recapping Buckeyes transfer portal additions, losses in spring window
COLUMBUS — Just because Ohio State wrapped up spring practice on April 15 doesn’t mean the spring was over.
In a way, it was just beginning. As the Buckeyes finished spring football April 15 with their annual spring game, the second transfer window opened that same day. And it’s been a busy two weeks for Ohio State ever since.
The Buckeyes lost four players to the transfer portal. Two second-year wide receivers, Caleb Burton and Kaleb Brown left the program during the spring window. Both players were in their second year at Ohio State, and it was hard to see either of them finding playing time in the receiver rotation this fall.
Ohio State lost an offensive lineman to the portal, too, as former four-star Ben Christman entered the portal after two years and a third spring at Ohio State. The 6-foot-6, 315-pound player from Revere High School, in Richfield, Ohio, was the No. 8 interior offensive lineman in the 2021 class, but he was also having trouble finding time on the field during the upcoming season.
They also lost reserve kicker Jake Seibert, although he was tracking as the No. 3 kicker on the roster.

But it wasn’t all losses for the Buckeyes, who added two massive transfer additions through the portal, both of them from the 2021 recruiting class.
Former Notre Dame athlete Lorenzo Styles Jr. committed to Ohio State last weekend. Styles is the son of former Buckeyes linebacker and Super Bowl champion Lorenzo Styles and the older brother of current Ohio State safety Sonny Styles. He was a four-star recruit coming out of Pickerington Central High School and chose Notre Dame over Ohio State, playing wide receiver for the Irish. He’ll play defensive back at Ohio State. Lettermen Row sources indicated that he’ll begin his Buckeyes career at cornerback.
The Buckeyes also had a need at offensive tackle and added Josh Simmons, who was the starting right tackle at San Diego State last season. He’ll step in and immediately compete for a starting job this fall with other tackle options for the Buckeyes.
