COLUMBUS — The headliner of the nonconference slate is clear and obvious for Ohio State.

But the Buckeyes can’t show up to their marquee matchup at Notre Dame in Week Four without getting through their first two nonconference games. Those two matchups, home battles with Youngstown State and Western Kentucky, now officially have TV channel designations, and they’ve both been filled to time slots.

The Buckeyes Sept. 9 home opener against Youngstown State will kick off at Noon inside the Horseshoe and will be televised on Big Ten Network, the networks and athletic department announced Wednesday afternoon.

The next week, Ohio State will play its second straight home game when it takes on Western Kentucky inside Ohio Stadium. That game will be televised on FOX and will kick off at 4 p.m.

No, neither of these contests will be headliners for the September slate. That deignation belongs to the road trip to Notre Dame, which will be a primetime kickoff on Sept. 23 on NBC. But after opening the season on the road against Indiana on Sept. 2 (3:30 p.m. on CBS), the Buckeyes now know when their first two home games will be.

Plan accordingly.

Buckeyes also set for primetime game vs. Michigan State

Ohio State will play host to Michigan State in primetime on Nov. 11, earning a 7:30 p.m. kickoff time on NBC, the new Big Ten network partner announced earlier this month.

Ohio State has won every matchup against Michigan State since 2015, and the recent history of the series hasn’t been pretty. The Buckeyes badly beat the Spartans in East Lansing last season, walking out of Spartan Stadium with a 49-20 win.

Ryan Day has not lost to Mel Tucker since Tucker took over at Michigan State, winning both matchups by at least 29 points in each of them, including the 2021 meeting in the Horseshoe when both teams were ranked inside the top-10.
