The Monday After: Taking closer look at Buckeyes home-opening win over Youngstown State
COLUMBUS — The glaring question still remains at Ohio State — for now.
The Buckeyes are still without a permanent starting quarterback. Whether head coach Ryan Day names one this week still remains to be seen, but junior Kyle McCord is certainly making a claim to become the full-time starter.
He showed plenty of good things through the first two weeks of the season.
“I think early in games like that, how you play matters,” Day said. “And I like how we came out of the gates playing well. They’re fresh. They’re playing their best football in that first quarter, and you want to see us playing good football. And you know, he made some nice throws early on, and that was good. And he got himself into a rhythm and showed that he can make some of those throws.
“That’s important.”
Of course, Ohio State has other concerns rather than just who the quarterback will be.
How much progress have the Buckeyes made in the first two weeks of the season? Is it officially time for Ohio State coach Ryan Day to name Kyle McCord has his starting quarterback? Can the Ohio State defense keep up its early-season success with an underwhelming defensive line so far? And what other happenings in college football impact the Buckeyes through two weeks of the college football season?
Spencer Holbrook, Andy Backstrom and Tim May are breaking down how the Buckeyes fared with the newest Lettermen Row video: The Monday After. Every Monday following Buckeyes games, Tim, Andy and Spencer will reconvene and chat about what they saw Saturday afternoon, this time after the home-opening win over the Penguins in Columbus.
Don’t miss The Monday After with Spencer and Tim as they take a final look at the latest Buckeyes win — this one coming over Youngstown State.

But, most importantly, Ohio State is 2-0 and has one more game before its highly-anticipated Week 4 matchup at No. 9 Notre Dame.
First, however, there’s more to break down from the Buckeyes’ blowout win this past Saturday. Ohio State’s been doing that, anyway. The program announced its players of the game Sunday: wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (offense), linebacker Tommy Eichenberg (defense), cornerback Denzel Burke (defense) and linebacker Cody Simon (special teams).
