Viewing Guide: How to watch Ohio State v. Akron in Buckeyes' season opener
COLUMBUS — It’s been a long offseason for Ohio State. But the offseason is a little 48 hours away from officially ending.
The No. 2 Buckeyes kick off their season on Saturday against Mid-American Conference member Akron. The Buckeyes return a number of important players for the 2024 season including Emeka Egbuka, Jack Sawyer, Cody Simon, TreVeyon Henderson, Donovan Jackson, J.T. Tuimoloau and more.
The Buckeyes lost the last game they played — a 14-3 embarrassment to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl. But it’s a new season, new opportunities and an awful lot of hype and expectation.

Ohio State is 8-1 against Akron in its program history. Yes, the Buckeyes have lost to the Zips before, but more on that below.
The two teams last met in 2021 in Columbus where the Buckeyes won 59-7. Another wrinkle in this year’s contest is that Akron’s head coach is Joe Moorhead. Moorhead was Oregon’s offensive coordinator in 2021 when the Buckeyes lost at home to the Ducks. The same year they played Akron.
