Photos: Ohio State survives Maryland road trip, Michigan week begins

COLLEGE PARK, Md — Ohio State might have been caught forward-thinking a few times Saturday evening against Maryland.
But even with the lapses, the Buckeyes took care of business.
Ohio State wrapped up its away game stretch of the season with a 43-30 win over Maryland in a game where the score was not reflective of the action.
The Buckeyes had too many penalties that stalled or derailed drives. Delays of games and false starts plagued No. 2 Ohio State throughout the night. The most irritating of the penalties came in the fourth quarter where the Buckeyes lined up for a two-point conversion but lost track of the play clock.
But even with the miscues, the offense found ways to move. Freshman running back Dallan Hayden has taken charge in the running backs room in recent weeks. Hayden, who ran for 102 yards last week against Indiana, followed up the performance with 146 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Sophomore running back TreVeyon Henderson was taken off the injury report this week and had good moments against the Terrapins. His highlight was 31-yard touchdown reception on the Buckeyes’ opening drive, but he struggled to build anything off the initial drive.
Quarterback C.J. Stroud had a pedestrian day for him. The Heisman hopeful went 18-31 for 241 yards and a touchdown.

The Buckeyes defense struggled throughout the day as well. Ohio State had its opportunities to stop Maryland drives before they started, but the Terrapins kept things close.
In the waning moments of the game, however, the Ohio State defense rose to the challenge like it has all season.
Senior defensive end Zach Harrison sacked Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa on back-to-back plays in the closing moments of the fourth quarter. On the second sack, Harrison forced a fumble that linebacker Steele Chambers recovered for the game-sealing touchdown.
Ohio State (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) already has put this win behind him. Tougher challenges lie ahead.
It’s Michigan week.
