Photos as Ohio State opens up first week of spring practice
COLUMBUS — Football is back at Ohio State.
The Buckeyes returned to the field for the first time since their one-point loss to Georgia in the College Football Playoff Semi-Final Peach Bowl game on New Year’s Eve. Ohio State was a missed field goal and a handful of other mistakes away for play for a national championship.
None of that matters now, however. The 2022 season is officially put to bed with the arrival of spring practice. The Buckeyes opened up their first of 15 practices on March 7 and had their second practice on March 9.
There are plenty of things Lettermen Row is watching throughout the season.
Will it be Kyle McCord or Devin Brown as the heir to C.J. Stroud’s open quarterback spot? How will the offensive line gel together after losing three starters to the NFL draft? Who on the defense can make a name for themselves, especially in the secondary?
New storylines are already emerging as well. Both Ryan Day and Brian Hartline have made a point of bringing up the three early enrollee wide receivers — Carnell Tate, Noah Rogers and Bryson Rodgers. Jim Knowles has put the JACK/LEO position on the shelf, for now.

Lettermen Row’s Spencer Holbrook, Andy Backstrom and Tim May are following all of the storylines and tracking them throughout the spring. Each practice has ended with a thorough offensive and defensive observations notebook. Ohio State has made several players available after the practices and of course, the head man Ryan Day has spoken to the media.
The Buckeyes have a lot to accomplish in only 15, now 13, practices.
Along with football storylines, there is of course recruiting news to follow in the spring. The Buckeyes already added a new member to their 2024 class after one week of on-campus visits. Several 2024 prospects have been RPMd into the system.
While some stories are yet to be told, check out a few photos from the first two practices inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Ohio State will return to the field on March 21.
