COLUMBUS — Ohio State is back to work as the Buckeyes returned to the practice fields at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center for preseason training camp.

Head coach Ryan Day heads into his fifth season at the helm of the Buckeyes’ program and he along with a number of returning staffers and players have extra motivation for this season.

Ohio State ended its 2022 campaign with back-to-back losses. Michigan and Georgia handed the Buckeyes tough losses and the Bulldogs sent them into a long offseason.

Star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. headlines a long list of returning firepower for Ohio State as well. He is joined by Emeka Egbuka, Julian Fleming and Xavier Johnson in another ridiculous wide receiver core.

Where the offensive questions lie starts at the quarterback position. Kyle McCord and Devin Brown are battling for the coveted starting position in the Day-Brian Hartline offense. The two quarterbacks each have their own strengths and weakness that are going to bush this competition to the brink.

Perhaps as important is for the Buckeyes to figure out the offensive line pieces. Josh Fryar looks all but settled in Paris Johnson Jr’s old spot at the left tackle. The center and right tackle competitions are going to be intense and should be intriguing for the entire Ohio State offensive coaching staff to figure out, namely Justin Frye.

It’s year two in defensive coordinator Jim Knowles‘ system. He has the pieces, he has the staff, now it’s time to execute. Knowles has a bevy of returning starters back including Tommy Eichenberg, Steele Chambers, J.T. Tuimoloau, Jack Sawyer, Michael Hall, Denzel Burke, Jordan Hancock and Lathan Ransom.

The expectations are as high as they have been in some time and with the addition of graduate assistant James Laurinaitis, Buckeye Nation is hoping to see the resurgence of the Silver Bullets.

Lettermen Row was on hand for the first day and had plenty of coverage, which we will include below.

We also have compiled a photo gallery of the first day. Photographers were able to shoot for the first three periods of the practice.
