Ohio State commit named to high school preseason Butkus Award watch list
COLUMBUS — Ohio State is used to the preseason award watch lists this offseason, and now a future Buckeyes star is named on one: Arvell Reese was named to the high school preseason Butkus Award watch list.
The award goes to the nation’s top high school linebacker; 51 names are on the list, in honor of legendary linebacker Dick Butkus who wore No. 51.
Finalists for the award will be named on Nov. 21, and the winner will be named in early December. The high school version of the award began in 2008, and former Buckeyes linebacker Raekwon McMillan won the 2014 award.
At 6-foot-3, 225-pounds, Arvell Reese is one of the more violent linebackers in the 2023 cycle. He plays with tenacity from depth and quickly recognizes plays unfold. In his junior season, his first as a linebacker, he showed weekly improvement and earned national attention.
