COLUMBUS — Ohio State entered Friday with only one offensive lineman committed to its 2025 class. And that’s how it will end Friday.

Four-star Franklin (Mich) Wylie E. Groves interior offensive lineman and longtime Buckeyes target Avery Gach has committed to Michigan. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Michigander is the No. 252 overall prospect, the No. 19 interior offensive lineman and the No. 2 Michigan prospect according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Gach picked the Wolverines over Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin — a final four he established back on April 24.

The Buckeyes gave the Wolverines all they could in this recruitment for the top offensive lineman in Michigan. But Sherrone Moore was always in the driver’s seat for this recruitment and managed to stave off an Ohio State charge led by Justin Frye, Ryan Day, Chip Kelly, Mike Sollenne and numerous other staffers.

Gach visited Ohio State in early April, but that was his first visit since October when he was a guest for the Maryland game. He had been to Michigan four times between his Ohio State visits and then returned to Ann Arbor for the Wolverines’ spring game.

He spoke with Zach Libby of The Wolverine about that a few weeks back.

“I felt like the spring game went well,” Gach said. “I liked the commits that they have there. So, I was talking to them about how it went for them. It was just cool seeing them compete out there.”

Four-star Toledo (Ohio) Whitmer offensive tackle Carter Lowe remains the lone offensive lineman committed to the Buckeyes’ top-ranked 2025 class.

It’s back to the drawing board for Buckeyes‘ offensive line coach Justin Frye. He has had success in Michigan before, prying 2024 top 150 IOL Gabe VanSickle out of the state. The Buckeyes continue to evaluate and look for viable options as they need another tackle and at least one interior offensive lineman.
