Ohio State defensive commits see up and down results, weekend update

COLUMBUS — Ohio State is entering game week and will hit the road for its first game of the season, but the future of the program already has been under the lights.

High school football opened up throughout parts of the country last week and is now officially back throughout the country. Meaning, every Ohio State commit was in action this past weekend.

Lettermen Row runs through the weekend scoreboard and with stats we’ve gathered.

ICYMI: Ohio State offensive commits continue to excel, weekend results

Defensive Line

  • Five-star Chicago (Ill) St. Ignatius defensive tackle Justin Scott won his senior season opener against Chicago (Ill) St. Patrick 37-10.
  • Five-star Buford (Ga) defensive lineman Eddrick Houston defeated Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek 10-7 on Friday. Houston and the Buford defense held Mallard Creek scoreless from the second quarter on.

Linebacker

  • Four-star Sunbury (Ohio) Big Walnut linebacker Garrett Stover lost 41-14 to Upper Arlington (Ohio) on Friday. Even in the loss, Stover was very efficient with 6.5 tackles, one tackle for loss, half a sack and a tipped pass.
  • Four-star Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy linebacker Payton Pierce opened his season with a massive 50-37 win over College Station (Texas). Lovejoy was up 43-16 at halftime.

Cornerback

  • Four-star Springfield (Ohio) cornerback Aaron Scott Jr. had a tough outing Saturday against DeMatha Catholic in Ironton, Ohio. The Wildcats lost 35-7 and the future Ohio State cornerback was part of a defense that led up 28 points in the first half.
  • Four-star Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville cornerback Bryce West had a solid night in the Tarblooders’ 34-10 win over Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty. West once again was lockdown as a cornerback, but he also saw a few reps on offense, primarily catching swing passes out of the backfield.
  • Four-star Chandler (Ariz) Basha cornerback Miles Lockhart opened his senior season with a monster 66-7 win over Mesa (Ariz) Westwood.

Safety

  • Four-star West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep safety Jaylen McClain lost his senior season opener 49-7 to Chattanooga (Tenn) Baylor School in Dublin, Ireland.
