Ohio State makes final three for 2023 EDGE Derion Gullette
COLUMBUS — Ohio State remains on the playing field for a top-200 prospect in the 2023 class.
Four-star Marlin (Marlin, Texas) High EDGE Derion Gullette began narrowing his focus after he released his final three programs, and the Buckeyes made the cut. Gullette is the No. 8 rated EDGE in the country, No. 9 rated prospect in Texas and No. 54 rated prospect nationally according to On3.
The other two schools in Gullette’s final three are Texas and Texas A&M.
A rising senior, Gullette is listed at 6-foot-3, 225-pounds and his frame provides Ohio State with a unique recruiting pitch based on defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ defensive scheme. Gullette has the size and the skill to play on the line of scrimmage or back at linebacker depth. Ohio State is currently without a linebacker commit in its 2023 class, but it does have two defensive linemen: four-star Jason Moore and three-star Will Smith Jr.
Derion Gullette was part of the massive June visit period for the Buckeyes and he was seriously impressed by the experience from Columbus.
“The visit was great,” Gullette told Lettermen Row. “Got to really learn more about the Buckeyes and understand their culture. They made a great impression on me. I love how Coach Day is all about development. That’s big for me.”
Gullette’s official visit to Ohio State on June 10 was his first ever to the Buckeyes, but he got to see plenty of the ins and outs of the program.

“Everything, really,” Gullette told On3 about what stood out during his official visit. “I loved how they preached development and relationships. Got to spend time with some players too so I got to really see how the culture is.”
Derion Gullette also took an official visit to Austin in June and is yet to make an official to College Station, though he has visited the Aggies’ campus 11 times.
Despite his high amount of visits to Texas A&M, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has Texas as the favorite to land Gullette with an 89.5-percent chance.
The Buckeyes currently hold a 1.1-percent chance, but that could change soon since they’re still in it for the talented Texan.
